Should You Invest in Your Oral Health with Your Tax Refund?
April 29, 2022
Filing your taxes certainly isn’t the most fun thing in the world, but when you receive a sizable refund, it seems pretty worth it! However, then it becomes puzzling trying to figure out what to spend that money on—do you desperately need to upgrade your wardrobe? Are you feeling burnt out from working nonstop and desire a vacation? Do you have debt or a major bill to pay off? While those are all great ideas, one other thing you should consider is spending the money on your oral health; here’s how an investment in your mouth now can save you a lot of trouble and money in the future.
Why Is Good Oral Health Important?
You don’t have to be an expert to realize that poor oral hygiene can lead to numerous health problems. Many conditions, such as tooth decay or gum disease, cause pain that will gradually increase over time and wear you down. In many cases, poor oral health can also strongly increase the risk of developing a potentially deadly disease, like oral cancer, diabetes, or even heart disease. If avoiding both short and long-term health problems is something you care about, you need to evaluate the status of your mouth and consider investing in it.
Can I Afford to Have Good Oral Health?
If you’re wondering about whether you can afford dental care, you’re not alone. For many people, cost is a big factor in determining if they can receive a particular treatment. However, by putting your tax refund towards dental care, you are already lowering the price tag and ensuring that you can afford treatment now or in the future. Not to mention, something small like a teeth cleaning could theoretically save you a lot of money (and time) later, as you’re decreasing the risk of a serious problem developing. If you think about it in terms of investment, your teeth are essentially future-proof—so pouring money into preserving them is a very safe bet.
How Can I Turn My Tax Return into A Healthy Smile?
After filing your taxes and [hopefully] receiving a sizable refund, meet with your dentist to discuss possible treatments. There are many available options that can improve and enhance your smile, such as professional whitening, veneers, or a smile makeover. More intensive treatments, like root canals or extractions, are available for serious issues. Even if your mouth is already relatively healthy, there is never any harm in getting a consultation or simply having your teeth cleaned.
It’s always nice to receive money back after filing your taxes; almost as nice as having a healthy smile. If you’re unable to decide what to spend your refund on this year, just go to the bathroom, look in the mirror, and open wide—your teeth are worthy of investment.
